About
Dual Career Program and Support
The Provost's Office Dual Career Program is intended to support the recruitment of tenured and tenure-track faculty by assisting their partners in finding meaningful employment. This program is run through both the Provost's Office and Texas Career Services, depending on whether or not the partner is looking for academic (i.e., faculty or postdoctoral researcher) or non-academic employment.
Requests for Partners Seeking Academic Positions
Dual Career Program Funding for Partner Hires
If the partner is seeking an academic position at UT Austin, the Dean and Department Chair for the primary hire are responsible for finding the appropriate academic home for the partner. The partner must interview in the proposed home and satisfy all academic criteria for the proposed position. If this home is in a different CSU than the primary hire, the deans of both CSUs must agree to the placement of the partner before requesting assistance from the Dual Career Program. For a summary of funding that is available to support the partner's academic position, please see the Provost's Office appendix.
Requesting Dual Career Funds
Once the Dean(s) approve of the partner hire's placement, CNS Faculty Affairs will reach out to the relevant Department Chairs to collect the following materials required for the dual career funding request. The College of Natural Sciences will submit the request if the primary hire is in CNS; if the primary hire is in another college, CNS will help collect materials for the partner hire so that the primary hire's college can submit the request.
CNS Faculty Affairs will inform the relevant departments if the dual career funding request is approved by the Provost's Office, at which point the partner hire's CSU can begin negotiations for the offer letter.
