Refreshements are a natural part of any event. Almost all events feature some type of food or beverage, whether it is simply coffee and water, a light continental breakfast, a lunch buffet, or a multi-course dinner.
Considerations when planning the food and beverage for your event include:
The time of day - Morning, noon, afternoon or evening? Choose food and beverage that make sense for the time of your event.
Duration of the event - One hour, or all day? The duration of the event will dictate how much/how often guests need refreshments.
Attendees - Who is attending? Different groups of people may require and/or expect different kinds of refreshments. Do your guests enjoy healthier options? Are they big coffee drinkers? Take these preferences into account during your conversations with potential caterers, and don't forget to create a plan for guests with dietary restrictions.
Budget - How much can you spend? Food and beverage may not be the main component of your event; make sure to consider your overall budget carefully when considering your catering options. For a tight budget, you may need to cut costs by offering simpler fare.
Food service - Buffet, plated courses, passed appetizers? Self-serve water and coffee service? Consider your overall event goals as you decide how your refreshments will be served.
