All events planned and produced by the College of Natural Sciences, regardless of size or purpose, are a direct reflection of the college and its commitment to science, discovery, and preparing tomorrow’s leaders. Every event is an opportunity to educate, build relationships, and fuel Longhorn pride.
Clearly defining why you are planning an event from the beginning will help ensure the success of your event. The Dean’s Office has identified key college priorities that can serve as broad goals when hosting an event and can be kept in mind throughout the planning process:
- Promote & celebrate excellence in teaching
- Promote & celebrate excellence in research
- Promote & celebrate excellence in service & outreach
- Promote leadership & celebrate advancement
- Promote CNS identity and enhance morale
Part of your answer to "why host this event?" should include identifying your target audience. Having the right people attend your event will ultimately define its success. Laying the foundation with a thoughtful guest list is critical. When developing a guest list, considerations include:
- Internal and/or external audience
- Past attendance (at annual events or similar events)
- Location
- Degree/major/department
- Affinity (similar interests)
- Giving history and/or potential
