Advisors in the Center for First-Year Advising assist freshmen, transfer, and entry-level students to better understand the academic processes at the University of Texas. Services to students include:
- providing a clear understanding of academic requirements (university, college, major).
- enabling students to utilize university resources.
- assisting with registration advising (course requirements, prerequisites, etc.).
- develping a trusting relationship and serving as advocates for students.
- encouraging and guiding students as they defniie and develop realistic goals.
Preparing for an Advising Appointment
- Students may schedule an appointment by calling 471-3796, or at the front desk in WC Hogg. If you cannot attend the appointment, please call ahead to cancel.
- Consider why you are making the appointment. Write down questions that you would like to ask the advisor.
- Prepare for your appointment by researching major choices, prerequisite requirements, or other academic areas that will be discussed.
Student Responsibilities
- Plan ahead and schedule an advising appointment each semester.
- Come in early, particularly at the first sign of difficulty.
- Read university, college, and advisor emails as they contain important and relevant academic information.
- Be respectful of the advisor’s time; call ahead to reschedule if you will not be attending an appointment.
- Prepare for your advising appointment by researching major choices, prerequisite requirements, and asking relevant academic questions.
- Familiarize yourself with university rules and requirements.
- Make responsible decisions about personal goals and educational plans.
