Role of a TIP Advisor
Academic advising in college is more than simply meeting to pick classes for next semester. TIP advisors are your connection to the larger UT academic community and to off-campus opportunities.
What can your TIP advisor do for you?
Academic advisors are professionals dedicated to helping you succeed in college. Advisors help you navigate the University and connect you to resources and experiences that take into consideration your abilities, interests and life goals. Frequent proactive contact with advisors provides you with current academic information and promotes timely progress toward graduation.
Your TIP advisor can answer any of your quick questions or concerns by email (always include your UT EID in email correspondence). For a more involved conversation, make an appointment to meet in person.

Be an active participant in your advising appointment!
- Be prepared with your questions and concerns
- Bring related advising materials
- Follow through on referrals and recommendations
- Follow up with additional appointments as necessary
Certain times of the semester are very busy for all advisors, especially during registration advising and during the add drop period, so please see your advisor early in the semester and often enough to be sure your questions and concerns are thoroughly addressed.
