UT Austin Ranks No. 10 Among U.S. Universities for Science in Latest Nature Index

The University of Texas at Austin ranked No. 11 among all U.S. institutions (academic and nonacademic) and No. 10 among U.S. universities for publication of scientific research, according to the latest report from the Nature Index.

UT Austin was No. 4 among U.S. public universities.

The Nature Index also evaluates productivity of the top institutions in four specialty subject areas. UT Austin had top 25 rankings in three:

The Nature Index tabulates author affiliations for about 60,000 scientific articles published per year in 68 elite natural science journals identified through an independent survey of researchers and scientific experts. The list of journals includes prestigious publications in chemistry, life sciences, physical sciences and earth and environmental sciences, including Science and Nature. Editors counted the number of times each institution's authors appeared in the journals, adjusting fractionally for co-authorship.

Other Texas schools listed in the top 50 academic institutions include Texas A&M University (No. 38) and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (No. 41).

UT Austin has been ranked highly for research disciplines and global competitiveness in other recent publications. U.S. News & World Report (2017) gave the university top 10 rankings in more than 40 graduate programs.
