Texas Memorial Museum Installs Outdoor Saber-Toothed Cat Sculpture
Event: A larger-than-life bronze saber-toothed cat sculpture will be installed at the east entrance to the Texas Memorial Museum.

When: 8 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24. (A public unveiling will take place at 12:45 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30).

Where: The east entrance to the Texas Memorial Museum on The University of Texas at Austin Campus, 2400 Trinity St.

Background: The sculpture was crafted by Texas Natural Science Center’s exhibit artist, John Maisano, and depicts a large male saber-toothed cat at one-and-a-quarter-times its life size. The sculpture was cast in bronze by the Deep in the Heart Art Foundry in Bastrop, Texas.

Other works by Maisano include the redesign of the Hall of Geology and Paleontology and a larger-than-life-size bronze dinosaur sculpture for the Hartman Prehistoric Garden at Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin.
