Development in Textile Defect Detection Wins Walmart Foundation Grant

Bugao Xu, UT Austin professor in the School of Human Ecology, and his research team have developed a detection system for textiles using optical sensors, which garnered the praise and support of the Walmart Foundation, including a $350,000 grant.

​The sensors which the UT Austin research team developed will help make weaving, the backbone of the textile industry, more efficient and cost effective while also improving the quality of textiles for consumers. News Radio KLBJ reports that The Walmart foundation hopes that by awarding the exceptional team this grant they will help further their research, and ultimately help create a  more sustainable textile process.
