Dear students,
Everyone remembers (or is living through) freshman year. New ways of succeeding in courses, getting to know the campus, searching for a community of friends to connect with, living away from home for the first time, and figuring out what you'll major in. It's a lot all at once, and everyone needs help and support along the way. I'd like to invite you to:
CNS Town Hall
"The Freshman Experience"

CNS provides many resources to students: Freshman Interest Groups (FIGs), Freshman Research Initiative (FRI), Residence Hall Study Groups, and academic advisors. Where do you go for help? What works well and what doesn't? How often did you interact with your academic advisor? Did you learn what you needed to at orientation? Where could the college do better in supporting students? Last spring, the College invited students to participate in small focus groups to talk about these issues. At this week's Town Hall, we will
-share with you the student opinions from the focus groups
-hear from a student panel about their freshman experience
-hear your opinions
-share new ideas for how the college can serve freshmen and advising better
I will be there, as will Dr. Mike Raney, Assistant Dean for Advising and Orientation. You are critical to this process. A new initiative like this works best when students like you provide feedback. We in the college can change many things — we want to act based on the best ideas you bring to the discussion.

PS: As a follow up to the Town Hall, the student-led College Tuition and Budget Advisory Council and the Natural Sciences Council are working together to host additional focus group meetings where you can share your opinions.
