Three Natural Sciences Faculty Selected to Receive President's Associates Teaching Excellence Awards

Three faculty members from the College of Natural Sciences have been selected to receive the President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award for the 2013-2014 academic year at The University of Texas at Austin.

The award recognizes faculty members who have achieved a consistent level of excellence in teaching undergraduate students. The winners must also have been engaged in curriculum reform and educational innovation.

The recipients from the college are:

  • Andrew Ellington, Department of Molecular Biosciences
  • Leanne Field, Biology Instructional Office
  • Cynthia LaBrake, Department of Chemistry

"Your commitment and outstanding performance, as well as your high academic standards, instruct and inspire," said President William Powers Jr. in a letter to the winning faculty members.

Each recipient of the teaching award will receive a $5,000 honorarium and will be honored at a ceremony in spring of 2014.

The President's Associates Teaching Excellence Award was established in 1980 to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching at UT Austin. Awardees are chosen based upon nominations received from the deans and department chairs in the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Natural Sciences, and the School of Undergraduate Studies. All selections are reviewed by a committee chaired by the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and then sent to the Provost for final approval.
