Planning for Spring

Planning for Spring

Dear Students,

First, I want to thank those of you who took some time out last week to respond to this survey. It remains open so, if you haven't yet responded but now feel ready to share some reflections about how things are going this semester, please take a couple of minutes to take the survey today.

Secondly, some of our early survey respondents mentioned that they are planning for some changes for the next semester. For some of you, this will mean returning to Austin. Maybe you saw my email earlier this month and have been reading up on how undergraduate research opportunities are opening back up. Maybe for other reasons your current base of operations isn't an option in the new year.

In spring 2021, there are a number of housing options for those who need them. If you plan to reside on campus, you can apply now via this link to the housing portal; you can expect to get an offer for a contract around mid-November if you apply now. There is no penalty for applying and not accepting a contract offer, so now is the time to act if this is something you have been thinking of doing. The University Housing and Dining's website has more information in its FAQs.

Regardless of where you plan to be, carve out some moments now to think about what you want the spring to be. We know enough now to know the pandemic will not end abruptly with the new year. Still, it's within your power to begin making some broad-stroke plans for the spring.

Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
