The College of Natural Sciences will be hosting the inaugural Symposium for Undergraduate Research Exploration (SURE in CNS) this fall to bring bright upper-division undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds to The University of Texas at Austin to share their research and explore options to pursue advanced degrees in the sciences.
The first symposium will focus on the life sciences and will take place September 28-30, 2017. Future events will alternate between the life sciences and the physical sciences. The symposium is part of a larger effort by the college to recruit the best graduate students from across a diverse spectrum and endow them with resources to excel and help them become scientific leaders in the community.
Participants will have the opportunity to present their own original research to fellow undergraduate researchers and UT Austin faculty and graduate students, with the potential to win awards. Attendees will tour the labs of top researchers and meet graduate students from many disciplines, while learning about the ins and outs of graduate school, including financial support and career services. The college will provide all food and lodging, as well as travel support to the symposium.
SURE in CNS is open to all students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall. Individuals from populations traditionally underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged to apply. Applicants will be selected based on their qualifications. Deadline to apply is August 1, 2017.
