Get Immersed in Science

Dear Students,

The College of Natural Sciences has an amazing resource called the Texas Institute for Discovery Education in Science (TIDES). Many of you know TIDES as the home to our Freshman Research Initiative, as well as the support for our expansive Undergraduate Research Forum held each spring. But the team in TIDES also does much more.

This spring, they will be holding a series of Science Sprints to give students a chance to immerse themselves in a real world problem for a day. Teams of students will come together for an intensive, day-long event to work on a meaningful science problem. Build your resume, explore a new topic, and create a science product you can showcase to potential employers. T-shirts, lunch and snacks are included!

The first Science Sprint will be on Saturday January 27, and the topics are: #1: Restoring the Waller Creek Ecosystem; and #2: Creating Dashboards for Student Success Data. All majors are welcome! For more information and a chance to register for the projects visit Science Sprints.

Looking for other experiential learning opportunities? Let TIDES be your clearinghouse for resources and information on experiential learning activities, including research, study abroad, internships, entrepreneurship, and more. Explore Experiential Learning Resources for Your Major to find the opportunity that's right for you.

Dive in, and start experiencing science first-hand.

Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
