Dear Students,
This week, love is in the air. So why not celebrate your love of science by taking a special friend to a science event? There is an array of events that will help you embrace your love of science together.
We have an amazing guest lecture from Dr. Rob Knight on "Microbiomes and Gut Health" that is hosted by the Department of Nutritional Sciences. What says love like gut bacteria? Seriously, it is going to be huge. We had to book Hogg Auditorium for Thursday night.
Looking for more? The American Association for the Advanced of Sciences (AAAS) is holding its annual meeting in Austin this week. That will mean thousands of scientists in town to talk about the future of science! Can't commit to a whole conference? Don't worry, they are hosting a number of free events available for pre-registration like this film showcase Wednesday, a science diasporaevent Thursday and several events over the weekend.
Want to stick closer to home? Check out UT Brainstorms to learn more about neuroscience; this week Prof. Michael Drew will talk about "The Frightened Brain."
All of this and more can be found here.
You'll note that our events page has activities for all of spring. So don't just let your love of science shine on Valentine's Day. Get out all year and spread the love.
Much love,
Dr. Vanden Bout
