Charting Your Path

Charting Your Path

Dear Students,

Happy new year, and welcome back! When I was a student, the start of the semester always brought mixed emotions. There was excitement about reconnecting with friends and the new courses I was starting. But reading the course syllabi also brought anxiety as I contemplated the many tests, homework and papers that lay ahead. If you're feeling a bit anxious right now, try to view it as a positive, because it means you care and are motivated by the challenges ahead.

As I think I've said in the past, I'm not one for New Year's resolutions. That said, the start of the semester is a great time to think about our goals and to identify some steps to make them a reality. So, in this relatively peaceful time at the beginning of the semester, take some time to think about what you want for Spring of 2023. You may identify some objectives that you don't know how to achieve. That's OK because there are lots of people around here who can help you chart a path, including your professors, advisors and counselors, just to name a few.

One way I am charting a new course is that I will be writing to you a little earlier each week. Please be on the lookout all this semester for college newsletters from me—with events, student photos and more—on Mondays. I'm glad you're back on campus, and I'm looking forward to seeing what challenges you take on this semester.

Best,
Dr. Drew
