Changes

Dear Students,

My name is David Vanden Bout and since mid-summer I have been the new Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Natural Sciences. As most of you know, Dr. Kopp has taken a position as Dean of Arts and Sciences at The State University of New York Stony Brook.

As with all change, you’ll likely notice that some things will stay the same and others will be very different.  Like Dr. Kopp, I will send you weekly emails on Sunday.  I will use this forum to keep you up to date with events and changes in the College and University.  I will pass on ideas, stories, tips, advice, and probably ramble on a time or two.  These will show up in your inbox on Sundays and appear on the CNS website as my “yet to be named blog”.  As for differences: I have fewer bad physics jokes to pass on.

I hope you have had a great first few days of classes.  As we begin this academic year, I encourage everyone to strive to learn new things, support each other, and embrace new opportunities. It will be challenging, but it will be all the more rewarding because of what we will discover.

Best wishes for the coming week and year ahead,

- Dr. Vanden Bout

P.S. Each week I will share with you academic deadlines and significant announcements about events and opportunities within the CNS and university in general. These will appear in a weekly newsletter that includes the add/drop dates for courses, seminars, scholarships, etc… The link can be found at the top of this email (or here).
