Balance: Opportunities Outside the Classroom

Balance: Opportunities Outside the Classroom

Dear Students,

As most of you buckle down for the final push in the semester, I encourage you to schedule small breaks to attend a couple of the great free events CNS and UT have to offer this month:

  • Why You Should Consider Mid-Size Companies for Your Career Path, a chance to connect with local, dynamic executives and to sample heavy hors d'oeuvres and desserts on April 24 from 5:30-7 pm in the SAC ballroom (2.410).
  • Dr. Rainer Weiss, the 2017 Nobel Laureate in Physics, will talk about one of the most profound scientific achievements to occur in history: the discovery of gravitational waves by the LIGO detector, along with his vision for the future of gravitational wave astrophysics and astronomy on April 25 from 5-6:30 pm in Hogg Auditorium.
  • The Matrix Fashion Show is also Thursday, April 25 at the Frank Erwin Center at 7 pm (see, you can do both!). Textile and Apparel seniors will showcase more than 120 original runway designs, and they're always impressive.
  • Breaking Barriers: The Legacy of John S. Chase is in conjunction with the exhibition "Chasing Perfection: The Legacy of Architect John S. Chase" to talk about the relevance and impact of Mr. Chase, the first African-American graduate of UT Austin's School of Architecture.
  • The UT Calendar has many more events you can learn about.

Taking advantage of these opportunities can help keep balance in your life, and ultimately make you a stronger student.

Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
