AUSTIN, Texas—Computer scientists Chandrajit Bajaj and Nell Dale have been selected as fellows of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), a high honor in the field of computer science.
The ACM Fellows designation is bestowed upon association members who have distinguished themselves with outstanding technical and professional achievements in the field of information technology. A total of 47 fellows were named this year out of 68,000 members.
Bajaj, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and the director of the Center for Computational Visualization, was elected for his contributions to algorithms for geometric design, scientific visualization, computational biology and bioinformatics. He is currently using computer visualization tools to search for new disease treatments, understand learning and memory processing in the brain, and create realistic models of molecules, cells, tissues and organs.
Dale, a retired senior lecturer from the Department of Computer Science, was elected for her distinguished service to the ACM and impact on computing education.
An official induction ceremony will be held at the ACM Awards Banquet on June 26, 2010, in San Francisco.
