A Virtual High Five

A Virtual High Five

Dear Students,

The past week has been special with several events in CNS celebrating the accomplishments of our undergraduates, including the Aspire Banquet, Honors Day and Second-Year Excellence Awards. It's been inspiring to hear about, celebrate and meet some amazing CNS students. Congratulations to all those who participated!

Whether you participated in one of these events or not, here's something I want you to get in the habit of doing: Take time to acknowledge your successes, big or small. Maybe you put in long hours studying for an exam, you took time out to help a friend, you volunteered for a cause that matters to you… or you made sure to get a good night's sleep. Learning to acknowledge and celebrate your own achievements is important for your health and success.

As someone who has been applying for research grants and awards for more than 20 years — and often getting rejections — take it from me: we don't have full control over the recognitions we do or don't get from others. That's why we need to make sure to recognize our own victories.

Congratulations for your achievements this semester, and thanks for helping make CNS the special place that it is.

Best,
Dr. Drew
