A Special Message for College of Natural Sciences Undergraduates

This message was sent to current CNS undergraduate students in the weekly email from the college, prior to an evening with the dean especially for students.

Dear Students,

Dr. David Vanden Bout was kind enough to turn over this space to me for the week, and I look forward to meeting many of you Thursday evening at Success in Science.

As someone who was a first-generation college student, I appreciate the great fortune I have had getting to discover and follow my dreams, just as many of you are doing now. To get to focus on exciting science and to be surrounded by the wealth of ideas found at a research university is truly an amazing experience.

As you take in all that's available to you, I encourage you to see yourself as part of a proud tradition. Amid the tests and labs and football games, please also take moments to reflect on what it means that you are here.

Like the mission leaders for NASA, the trailblazing physicians and surgical pioneers, and the two recent Nobel Prize winners that came before you, you're a part of a UT and Natural Sciences tradition that leads us to say: What Starts Here Changes the World.

I look forward to learning what being a Longhorn means to you.

Sincerely,

Paul Goldbart
College of Natural Sciences Dean

P.S. Looking beyond your fellow students, do you know of others who help represent the Texas Science tradition of excellence and deserve recognition? Have your say by nominating outstanding teachers, advisers and alumni now for a teaching award, alumni award, or advising award.
