Dear Students,
There's a calendar from the Random Acts of Kindness organization in my office suite that plants a seed of an idea every day for how to operate from a place of kindness and gratitude. There's emerging science behind the profound positive impact gratitude can have on your life. I've found it to be true in my own life, and it is good to practice each day.
As you have a break from courses (or at least going to class) later this week, I offer a week's worth of prompts.
- Monday: Gratitude for Friends
- Text 3 friends and let them know how much they mean to you
- Tuesday: Gratitude for Teachers
- E-mail or send a postcard to a current or former teacher, letting them know what impact they've had on your life
- Wednesday: Gratitude for Yourself
- List 5 things that you (and only you) bring to your student org, team, or other group
- Thursday: Public Gratitude
- Show gratitude to someone publicly on social media
- Friday: Gratitude for the Unsung
- Send a thank you note to someone who has a challenging job and isn't necessarily thanked often for it
- Saturday: Gratitude for Family
- Send a note to a family member about your favorite memory with them and why it's so special
- Sunday: Gratitude for Accomplishments
- Write down 5 things you've already achieved this semester
Balancing the challenges of the rest of the semester with what you have to be grateful for can make a huge difference in your life. I invite you on this journey with me as I'll be tweeting out my own pieces of gratitude this week.
Best,
Dr. Vanden Bout
