From the CARE Team to our CNS Students

Dear Students,

Greetings from your College of Natural Sciences CARE counselors!

We wanted to drop by and acknowledge how difficult this semester has been as an ongoing continuation of the pandemic. Many are hitting a "pandemic wall" right now, especially as we pass the anniversary of this monumental disruption. It looks a little different for everyone, but it can be fatigue, grief, depression, anxiety, an inability to focus, sleeplessness and a general blurring of our days. It might feel like it is hard to stay focused, strenuous to hop from one Zoom class to the next and tough to keep a daily routine. We want to encourage you to give yourself permission to take care of yourselves during this incredibly demanding time. Here are some options for support:

  • Talk about options: If you're into talking — schedule a visit with us. Our office hours are Mondays 9-10a.m., Wednesdays from 2-3p.m. and Thursdays from 1-2p.m. If you're not available during these times, we'll work to accommodate your schedule. Here is more about what we offer and our contact info.
  • Tech: If you're into tech-based solutions — download the free Thrive at UT app. It has a lot of great resources for UT students. The Thrive at UT app can be found here.
  • Skills: Try one of our workshops, like How to Deal COVID-19 Edition (highly recommended!). It is a two-part series that highlights managing stress related to the current pandemic. Signing up for workshops is quick and easy and you don't need to be a CMHC client to attend.

Sincerely,

Nic Dahlberg and Andrea Ortega

P.S. Andrea Ortega, LCSW-S is returning from her maternity leave this semester and will be available on Thursdays and Fridays for the next several weeks as she returns to full time. We are very grateful to have her back and so happy about the successful birth of her child, Nia.
