Hispanic Heritage Month

UT AUSTIN BUTLER SCHOOL OF MUSIC

HISPANIC CARIBBEAN ENSEMBLE

Featuring Afro-Cuban standards by Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto and Tito Puente

Frank Cano, bass guitar. Originally from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, Frank earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Music performance from Texas A&M-Kingsville, and a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies from Texas State University. He is a busy freelance musician and educator in Austin, playing many different musical styles.

Richard Huntley, percussion. Originally from Iowa City, Richard is a lecturer in percussion at the Butler School of Music and is co-director along with Dr. Robin Moore of the UT Hispanic Caribbean Ensemble.  He lived in New York City for 25 years, where he made his living as a professional musician, performing, touring and recording.

Noah Simon, piano. An Austin native, Noah is a senior composition major at the Butler School of Music.  He has been a member of the Hispanic Caribbean Ensemble for 3 years.  He also plays accordion, guitar and bass.

JA Strub, vocals. J.A. is a 3rd year Ethnomusicology graduate student at the Butler School of Music, hailing from Queens, New York. As a member of the Hispanic Caribbean Ensemble, he sings, and plays bass guitar, tres and piano.
